Toy Review- Studio Series Sentinel Prime

Transformers One has been and gone but the toys are still trickling out.  Unlike the first live-action movie where the shelves were squashed with figures months before the film hit the cinemas, there hasn’t been a lot from Transformers One thus far to get.

Movie Review: Transformers One

So I was very happy to see Sentinel Prime make his Transformers Studio Series debut.  The Studio Series, in my opinion, has declined in recent years with lots of repaints, recolours and average quality figures coming up.  Thankfully with Transformers One Sentinel Prime we a return to form with an excellent figure!

Robot Mode

Very nicely proportioned, the only detractor being his wings are a lot bigger on his robot mode than they appeared on screen.  Besides this one downside it’s a great looking figure with good proportions, excellent articulation and a vibrant colour scheme.  Lots of detail in the face as well which is always good to see.

Robot – Battle Mode

Just awesome

This is very cool and more than any of his other modes showcases how much effort the designers went to with this figure.  Sentinel’s battle mode has his arms converting into cannons, his feet converting into a hover mode, a battle mask and extra weaponry such as blasters and a big shield.  He can be a little hard to stand up in battle mode but overall he looks fantastic and makes him look like a bot to be reckoned with.

Cybertronian Jet Mode

Is he going to stop Dirge from getting a figure?

As he never transformed in the movie (which is a shame since they made a big deal about him having Megatronus’ transformation cog) the toy designers had some leeway with which direction they went as long as the robot mode looked accurate.  As he had wings they have chosen a nice looking jet, very elongated with forward angled wings attached to the main body. A bit of a shame about the flat shoulders at the front.

Cybertronian Jet – Battle Mode

Essentially adding the guns to the sides and his shield on top.  The guns look perfect on the jet, and surprisingly the shield doesn’t look too bad on the back either, at least its aerodynamic and adds a splash of colour.

Transformation

Very satisfying.  Plenty to do to keep you interested, but nothing too fiddly to frustrate you.

Overall

This has been the best of the Studio Series toys to come along  in a while and really has no detractors to it.  With a great paint job, great movie accuracy and a good altmode, this is a fun figure for even those that were not fans of the movie.
